Common Questions from New York Families

Do your camp weeks align with New York school calendars?

Yes! We understand that NY public schools often finish later in June due to Regents exams compared to other states. Our schedule includes sessions that run through late June, July, and August, ensuring that students from the New York City Department of Education and upstate districts can attend a full week of camp without conflicting with the end of their academic year.

Is IGC a good alternative to camps in the Catskills or Adirondacks?

Many of our campers prefer our location in the Pocono Mountains because it offers the same beautiful mountain setting as the Catskills or Adirondacks but with a significantly shorter commute. We are located just off I-80, making us an easy drive from the George Washington Bridge or the Lincoln Tunnel without the deeper trek into Upstate New York.

Can parents stay nearby for a Poconos weekend getaway?

Absolutely. Many of our New York families turn drop-off or pick-up into a mini-vacation. Stroudsburg and the surrounding Pocono region are home to great resorts like Camelback and Great Wolf Lodge, which are popular destinations for NYC families. You can enjoy the local attractions while your gymnast trains, just a short drive away.

Do you host groups from New York gymnastics clubs?

We frequently welcome groups and teammates from clubs across Long Island, Staten Island, Rockland County, and Albany. If your gymnast wants to attend with friends from their home gym, we can often arrange bunking requests so they can room together. It is a great way to bond with teammates outside of the regular competitive season.

Why do New York gymnasts choose a Pennsylvania overnight camp?

New York offers excellent day camps, but IGC offers a true “getaway” experience. Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains, our facility allows city gymnasts to trade the concrete for fresh air and nature. It is the perfect balance: close enough for a quick drive from NYC or Northern New Jersey, but far enough to provide a focused, distraction-free environment for elite and recreational training.

Do you cater to competitive gymnasts from NY clubs?

Absolutely. We host gymnasts from some of the top competitive clubs in New York State and the Tri-State area. Whether your gymnast trains in Upstate New York or the heart of New York City, our International coaching staff is equipped to handle high-level USAG and IGC curriculums. We offer elite-level training facilities that complement the rigorous schedules of competitive NY athletes.

What should we pack for a week in the Poconos vs. the City?

While the days can be warm like a New York summer, nights in the Pocono Mountains can get cooler than they do in the city. We recommend packing layers, including sweatshirts for the evenings. Unlike a city day camp, you will also need bedding and toiletries for the dorms. Check out our full [Packing List] for a detailed guide.
