Bruno’s 80th Birthday Weekend at IGC
This past weekend, we proudly hosted IGC founder Bruno Klaus’ 80th birthday weekend! It was an incredible weekend where Bruno was surrounded by his beloved family, friends, and colleagues.
The festivities began on Friday night with a special cookout at the Klaus house, as guests were arriving from all over the country, and as far as Germany. The events continued throughout the weekend with a dinner at IGC’s sister camp, International Sports Training Camp (ISTC) on Saturday evening.
Sunday was the all-day birthday BBQ at IGC. The day started off with a delicious brunch spread at our cafeteria. Later in the afternoon, all the guests enjoyed the BBQ, complete with a carving station, and of course plenty of desserts and birthday cake. The food was constantly flowing throughout the day, courtesy of our kitchen staff.
In between meals, everyone in attendance received a special treat at our Olympic Gym to watch Bruno perform his routines for the International Turnfest competition in June in Berlin, Germany. Everyone was cheering him on with every move he made. It was amazing to watch and each guest was in awe of him. It is undeniably clear that Bruno is still just as passionate about gymnastics as he has always been, which is a wonderful thing for all of us to witness.
There were fun activities planned throughout the day, including gaga ball and volleyball. One of the biggest highlights of the day was our handstand, flexibility, and strength competition, which was held in our dance gym. The guests and staff were split up into four age groups, including the very youngest attendee at 2 years old, all the way through to some true “masters” of the gymnastics community! Needless to say, it was very entertaining to watch! Everyone had a lot of fun with it and was cheering each other on.
There were hundreds of people that came out to celebrate Bruno’s 80th birthday weekend. It was the perfect weekend to mingle and reminisce with friends, family, and past campers and staff from IGC. The energy was infectious and everyone was in such high spirits. A great time was had by all who came out to celebrate Bruno and his legacy all weekend.
